🗺️ Atlas

Originally the fortified spur the Jebusites held and DAVID captured — 'David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David' (2 Samuel 5:7) — the narrow ridge south of the Temple Mount above the Gihon spring. The name then migrated upward and outward: first to the TEMPLE MOUNT once Solomon built there, then to Jerusalem entire, then to the people themselves ('daughter of Zion'), and finally, in the prophets, to a Jerusalem that does not yet exist. ⚠ The hill called Mount Zion today is a THIRD site, on the western ridge — a Byzantine-era identification, not the biblical one. Isaiah uses the name about forty-five times, more than any other book.

🗺️ No ancient-world overlay on the shelf yet for this site — a period map showing how the region actually looked in the biblical world gets added here as Mr. Librarian curates one, the same way the encyclopedia's film shelf grows.
▶ No films on the shelf yet — archaeology and geography videos get added here as Mr. Librarian finds good ones.
