First a woman and then a city. Tirzah is the youngest of Zelophehad's five daughters at Numbers 26:33; the name later belongs to a town in the hill country of Manasseh — her own tribe — which becomes a royal seat of the northern kingdom, where Elah and then Omri reign (1 Kings 16:8, 23) before Omri buys the hill of Samaria and moves the capital. ⚠ Whether the woman gave her name to the place or the place to the woman cannot be settled, and the Song of Songs later uses the name as a byword for beauty (6:4). The site is usually identified with Tell el-Far'ah North.
