The town Judah went up to for his sheepshearing — a festival occasion — and on whose road Tamar took her seat (38:12-14). Usually identified with Tel Batash in the Sorek valley, excavated and occupied through the Bronze and Iron Ages. A Timnah is also where Samson finds his Philistine wife and kills a lion (Judges 14), though whether it is the same town is disputed.
