Meribah of Kadesh approximate

The waters where Moses struck a crag he had been told to speak to, and lost the land for it (Numbers 20:12). The name is built on riv, to quarrel, so the place is called Quarrelling. ⚠ There are two Meribahs and they are not the same place: Exodus 17:7 names one at Rephidim, near Horeb, where Moses was told to strike; this one is in the wilderness of Zin, and Numbers 27:14 specifies it as Meribah of Kadesh precisely to distinguish them. ⭐ The two episodes are a matched pair with opposite instructions — strike at the first, speak at the second — which is what makes the second one culpable.

▶ No films on the shelf yet — archaeology and geography videos get added here as Mr. Librarian finds good ones.
