'City of forests' — a town on the Judah/Benjamin border about nine miles west of Jerusalem, and the place the ARK of the covenant sat for twenty years after the Philistines sent it back (1 Samuel 6:21–7:2), until David finally brought it up to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6). ⚠ It is also the home town of the prophet URIAH SON OF SHEMAIAH, whom Jehoiakim had extradited from Egypt and executed (Jeremiah 26:20) — so the village that once housed the ark for two decades also produced a prophet the state killed for saying what Jeremiah said. It appears in the returning exiles' own census lists as well (Ezra 2:25; Nehemiah 7:29), which means it survived the destruction that Uriah predicted.
