⚠ NOBODY KNOWS WHERE THIS IS — which is why it has no pin on the atlas. Kir is named four times: Amos 1:5 sends the Arameans into exile there; Amos 9:7 says it is where God BROUGHT THEM FROM ('did I not bring Israel up from Egypt, and the Philistines from Caphtor, and Aram from Kir?'); 2 Kings 16:9 records that Tiglath-pileser III actually did deport Damascus there in 732 BC; and Isaiah 22:6 has Kir alongside Elam in a muster of troops. Proposals put it in Mesopotamia, in Media, or somewhere on the middle Euphrates, and none of them is more than an inference from those four verses. The name means simply 'wall' or 'city'. The theological point does not depend on the geography: Aram is being sent back to its own beginning.
