A city of the Shephelah whose king, Piram, joined the coalition against Gibeon (Joshua 10:3, now on these pages). He was one of the five kings killed at Makkedah, but the city itself is not among the places the chapter says Joshua took. It is later listed among Judah’s lowland towns (Joshua 15:35) and among the villages resettled after the exile (Nehemiah 11:29), neither yet on these pages. ⚠ It is identified with Tel Yarmut, a large site near Beit Shemesh, on the likeness of the Arabic name Khirbet Yarmuk; the identification is tentative, and the site’s great city belongs to the Early Bronze Age, far older than any date proposed for Joshua. A second Jarmuth, a Levitical city in Issachar (Joshua 21:29), is a different place.
