A short, exceptionally fertile plain on the north-west shore of the Sea of Galilee, between Capernaum and Magdala — Josephus marvels that its soil grows walnuts, palms, figs and olives side by side, out of their ordinary seasons, for some ten months of the year. ⚠ It also lends the LAKE one of its four biblical names ('the lake of Gennesaret,' Luke 5:1, not yet on these pages) — so when the disciples' boat lands here after the night on the water (Matthew 14:34), Matthew is naming the SHORE, not repeating the lake's own alternate name, though the two are easy to confuse on a first reading.
