The house SOLOMON built on the threshing floor David bought, on the hill Genesis 22 calls MORIAH — begun in his fourth year (1 Kings 6:1) and standing, with periodic lootings and repairs, for close to four centuries. It was burned by Nebuzaradan, an officer of NEBUCHADNEZZAR, in 586 BC, together with the palace and every large house in Jerusalem (2 Kings 25:9). ⚠ That fire is the event LAMENTATIONS exists for, and the reason its first chapter can say the roads to Zion mourn and nations have entered the sanctuary. Its ark was never accounted for. The SECOND temple, begun under Cyrus's decree (Ezra 1) and finished in 516, stood on the same platform; the mourning for both is kept on the same day, the ninth of Av, when this book is read.
