‘The house of Peor’ — the valley settlement where Israel has been camped since before the Baal-peor crisis (Numbers 25, already on these pages), but which no verse names outright until Deuteronomy 3:29. ⚠ The Douay-Rheims alone declines to transliterate it, printing ‘the temple of Phogor’ — translating beth, ‘house,’ rather than leaving it as a place-name. ⭐ The valley does not let go of Moses: Deuteronomy 34:6 (not yet on these pages) reports him buried ‘in the valley… opposite Beth-peor,’ his grave deliberately unmarked to this day.
