A town ‘on the edge of the brook Arnon’ marking the southern limit of everything Israel took from Sihon (Deuteronomy 2:36) — the same place Numbers 32 (already on these pages) names among the towns Gad rebuilt after settling the Transjordan. It becomes the standing formula for the far southern boundary of Israel’s Transjordan holdings, repeated across Deuteronomy, Joshua and Judges.
