🗺️ Atlas

A Levitical (priestly) town in the territory of Benjamin, about three miles (5 km) northeast of Jerusalem — JEREMIAH's home village (1:1). It was very likely the place to which Solomon banished the priest Abiathar, sparing his life 'because you carried the ark' (1 Kings 2:26), which would make Jeremiah a son of that sidelined priestly line. Its men later plot against Jeremiah's life (11:21), and yet it is a field at Anathoth that Jeremiah buys, under siege, as a sign that 'houses and fields shall again be bought in this land' (ch 32). Identified with the modern village of Anata / nearby Ras el-Kharrubeh.

in the text Jer 1:1
