The broad valley running west from the hills below Beth-horon toward the coastal plain, and a town at its head. Joshua’s words set the moon over it and the sun over Gibeon to the east: Sun, be still at Gibeon, and moon, in the valley of Aijalon (Joshua 10:12, now on these pages). The town becomes a Levitical city (Joshua 21:24), and Saul’s army pursues the Philistines from Michmash to Aijalon (1 Samuel 14:31; neither yet on these pages). The Arab village of Yalo kept the name.
