1
There is therefore now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.note
2
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus set you free from the law of sin and of death.note
3
For what the law could not do, being weak through the flesh — God did: sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, note
4
so that the requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to flesh but according to Spirit.note
5
For those who are according to flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, and those according to Spirit on the things of the Spirit.note
6
For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace —note
7
because the mind of the flesh is hostility toward God, for it is not subjected to God’s law, nor can it be.note
8
And those who are in flesh cannot please God.note
9
But you are not in flesh but in Spirit, if indeed God’s Spirit dwells in you. And if anyone does not have Christ’s Spirit, this one is not his.note
10
But if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.note
11
And if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will also make your mortal bodies alive through his Spirit dwelling in you.note
12
So then, brothers, we are debtors — not to the flesh, to live according to flesh.note
13
For if you live according to flesh, you are going to die; but if by Spirit you put to death the practices of the body, you will live.note
14
For as many as are led by God’s Spirit, these are God’s sons.note
15
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery, back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, in which we cry out: “Abba, Father!”note
16
The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children.note
17
And if children, then heirs also — heirs of God, and heirs together with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him, so that we may also be glorified together with him.note
18
For I reckon that the sufferings of the present season are not worth weighing against the glory about to be revealed to us.note
19
For the creation waits with its head craned for the unveiling of the sons of God.note
20
For the creation was subjected to futility — not willingly, but because of the one who subjected it — in hope, note
21
because the creation itself will also be set free from the slavery of decay, into the freedom of the glory of God’s children.note
22
For we know that the whole creation groans together and travails together until now.note
23
And not only it, but we ourselves too, having the firstfruits of the Spirit — we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for adoption, the redemption of our body.note
24
τῇ γὰρ ἐλπίδι ἐσώθημεν· ἐλπὶς δὲ βλεπομένη οὐκ ἔστιν ἐλπίς, ὃ γὰρ βλέπει τίς ἐλπίζει;
For we were saved by hope; but hope that is seen is not hope, since who hopes for what he sees?note
25
But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with endurance.note
26
And in the same way the Spirit also takes hold together with us in our weakness; for we do not know what we should pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself pleads for us with groanings unspeakable.note
27
And the one who searches hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because he pleads for holy ones according to God.note
28
And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good — for those who are called according to purpose.note
29
Because those he knew beforehand, he also marked out beforehand to be formed with the image of his Son, so that he might be firstborn among many brothers.note
30
And those he marked out beforehand, these he also called; and those he called, these he also justified; and those he justified, these he also glorified.note
31
Τί οὖν ἐροῦμεν πρὸς ταῦτα; εἰ ὁ θεὸς ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν, τίς καθʼ ἡμῶν;
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?note
32
ὅς γε τοῦ ἰδίου υἱοῦ οὐκ ἐφείσατο, ἀλλὰ ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν πάντων παρέδωκεν αὐτόν, πῶς οὐχὶ καὶ σὺν αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα ἡμῖν χαρίσεται;
He who did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all — how will he not also, with him, freely give us all things?note
33
Who will bring a charge against God’s chosen? God is the one who justifies.note
34
Who is the one who condemns? Christ is the one who died — rather, who was raised — who is also at God’s right hand, who also pleads for us.note
35
τίς ἡμᾶς χωρίσει ἀπὸ τῆς ἀγάπης τοῦ Χριστοῦ; θλῖψις ἢ στενοχωρία ἢ διωγμὸς ἢ λιμὸς ἢ γυμνότης ἢ κίνδυνος ἢ μάχαιρα;
Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Tribulation, or hardship, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?note
36
As it is written: “For your sake we are being put to death all day long; we were reckoned as sheep for slaughter.”note
37
But in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through the one who loved us.note
38
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, note
39
nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.note
